Yesterday, a brilliant Star joined the heavens.
Star Bar (Salty 3 Bars x Totem's Spot Mini) foaled May 14, 1979
went to shine down on us on September 30, 2002.
She bore (to my knowledge) 17 foals, her last on her birthday of this year.
She was in our family just about a year--only a day would have been enough to
be in our hearts. She hugged us, talked to us, showed us she loved us as much
as we loved her. Star simply didn't have it in her to be mean. She didn't know
how.
Star Bar loved her last baby as well. She stayed here, fighting what we now know
was cancer, until her baby was all but weaned and being taken care of by rest of
the herd before she allowed herself to go. That beautiful mare gave birth to the
very first Draconia Keep foal, and Star was beloved by everyone here.
I will miss Star's whinnies and her hugs, and I will miss sitting with her in her
stall, her head on my lap. I will miss her gentleness and the depth of her eyes.
I will miss watching her grazing peacefully in the pasture, her baby never far away.
She taught me much about horses, about gentleness and about being a loving and
protective and disciplinary mother. Star trusted us and loved us and so, now,
thanks to her guidance, does her daughter.
The heavens have a brilliant Star now. I'll always wish on her....
