Taliesin or "Poet" as we've named him, is the first colt and third foal for PL Touched by an Angel.
In memory:
We found Poet lying in the pasture with the other horses around him. He had what looked like a hoof-sized surface gash in his leg but otherwise seemed fine. We got him in the barn with the tractor's bucket, and he ate and drank and passed manure as though he were fine.
Meanwhile, while we were dealing with Poet in the barn, we received the call that my father had passed away. We finished making Poet as warm and comfortable as we could make him, treated and wrapped his leg, then went to see my dad for the last time.
Poet never stopped eating, drinking or passing manure, but contrary to what we thought at the time, I'm not sure now he ever got up again.
He nickered at us and ate his grain and hay before we left for my dad's calling hours. But Poet was gone when we arrived back home that evening. Cookie and Freddie's beautiful colt was gone.
We have suppositions and theories for why he died, but none of those matter.
They say death comes in threes. For us it was my beloved grandfather on October 18, my dad on December 16 and Poet on December 18th.
May they all rest in peace.
What or who is "Taliesin"?:
"Taliesin (c. 534 – c. 599),(spelled as Taliessin in Alfred, Lord Tennyson's Idylls of the King and in some subsequent works), a Cumbric poet of Sub-Roman Britain whose work has survived in a Middle Welsh manuscript, the Book of Taliesin. Taliesin is a renowned bard who is believed to have sung at the courts of at least three British kings." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliesin
Legend has it that he sang at the Court of King Arthur.
Conformation and temperament:
He is tall; well laid back shoulder; tiny,
tippy ears; long legs; and a long, strong hip.
He has a bit of the "Flash" from his sire, but mostly Poet has his dam's laid back personality. He enjoys people, and he is inquisitive to learn.
And can he trot!! Just like his siblings, and his sire, Poet floats like a dream. We will be getting video of him and his siblings to post on YouTube.
