But why Dales? For Tori, her love is the Morgan, but for Doug it was the Dales that stole his heart--the big smooth bodies, the feathering and long manes and tails, and, most of all, the kind, willing temperaments.

Several years ago, Doug found two half Dales weanling fillies—a black and a buckskin—and Doug brought them home. During the two years Doug had them, he knew that he wanted a purebred Dales. So, with that in mind, both fillies were reluctantly sold.

Finally a pure-bred Dales: Four years ago, Doug purchased Canadales Lionheart (Dartdale Freddie x Canadales Smoke Gets in Your Eyes), 2004 black-based grey Section A Dales Pony stallion. A quiet, friendly stallion, most visitors don’t realize he is still entire until Doug tells them. Samson is full of energy and fun, but he’s kind and willing—and incredibly smart.

Samson is four years old this year, and he stays in a paddock with Tori’s four-year-old grey Morgan stallion as he has since they were yearlings. They play hard, rearing and bucking and playing tug-of-war with a feed pan, but there’s never a mark on them. They “share” the mares’ attention over the fence, and they are the best of friends.

They are happy, healthy and as long as they stay that way, Doug and Tori will keep them together.

Samson's conformation: Samson is a shorter stallion, perfect for the taller Dales mares, and his conformation is flawless. Strong hooves; laid back shoulder; small, tippy ears, and beautifully arched neck. Strongly muscled and short-backed, Samson has a long, round hip, and he is luxuriously covered in long, grey hair. Before he greyed, he was solid black with no white markings.
