Update on Little (Draconia) Lady Derringer

Draconia Lady Derringer (Hearth's Mercury Rising x Casland Miss Sassy), 2008 bay-based grey filly, born 4/21/08

Lady Sarah is a darling! We are all in love with her...she is *easily* the friendliest, most human-loving foal we've ever had.

And we are very concerned about her. Sassy (Casland Miss Sassy--Kingston granddaughter and the rest is all Devan) is 26 years old, and she's just not making enough milk, so we are having to hand feed Sarah. A bottle really isn't working, so we are having to syringe it which she is tolerating well.

Sarah's too weak for my liking, but she's trying. She just tires very easily. She's growing well, but it's going to be a long haul. We aren't going to take her from Sassy...frankly, they need each other emotionally. I don't want to raise an orphan foal because I think it's better if she's raised by her real mom. After all Sassy went through to get her here, she deserves to raise little Lady Sarah!!

So...we are supplementing Mom, and they are both doing as well as can be expected. I refuse to lose this little girl without a strong and mighty fight!

BTW, I called two clinics today on the advice of my dear friend's husband who is a vet, and both clinics said that tube feeding her would be the only other thing they could do that I couldn't, and because of being short-staffed, I could do better at home. And, honestly, she's not *that* weak. She just tires easily. (Of course, Doug and I are getting there quickly!!)

So...the little Lady could certainly use some positive thoughts. She's wrapped us all around her tiny little hooves, and we'd be all devastated if something happened to her.

*sigh* A week ago we didn't even know she existed, and now I can't imagine not having her here....
